Renewable Energy

We are the world’s largest generator of renewable energy from the wind and the sun.

                          Investing in Clean Energy Generation

Our investment in emissions-free and clean generation has reduced the impact on the air we breathe and demonstrates our commitment to environmental protection and stewardship. Our strategy is based on generating and delivering clean energy and building energy infrastructure that's reliable and affordable.

We expect that our investments in emissions-free wind and solar generation, innovative battery storage technology, low-emissions natural gas generation, safe and emissions-free nuclear power, industry-leading energy efficiency programs and transmission lines designed to deliver energy where it's needed when it's needed will enable us to continue providing a wide range of benefits to our many valued stakeholders.

From delivering superior value to our customers, to being good stewards of our environment, to investing in the communities we serve, all while providing outstanding returns to our shareholders, being a clean energy leader is not just the way we do business, it is our business.

NextEra Energy Resources is one of the world's largest generators of clean, renewable wind energy, with the largest market share of North American wind capacity. Over the last decade, our wind energy capacity has nearly tripled.

We operate more than 14,100 MW of emissions-free wind energy with plans to continue expanding our industry-leading renewable energy portfolio.

For 2020-2021, we expect to bring online an additional 5,500 MW of clean, emissions-free wind energy. In 2019 alone, our wind energy portfolio grew by more than 1,125 MW, adding six wind farms in six states. In addition, we repowered nearly 1,100 MW of wind energy in 2019, increasing our facilities' efficiency. We now have 126 wind projects in operation across 19 U.S. states and four Canadian provinces, which provide home-grown affordable energy and economic benefits to local communities.

With the combined power of our principal subsidiaries, NextEra Energy Resources, FPL and Gulf Power generating solar energy across the nation, we are one of the leading operators of renewable energy from the sun.

For nearly 30 years, NextEra Energy has pioneered universal solar.

                          • In Florida, we built the largest U.S. solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant at the time (2009).
                          • Also in Florida, we constructed the world's first innovative solar-gas hybrid power plant (2010).
                          • Now, in 2020, we're in the midst of one of the largest solar expansions ever in the U.S. with more than 6.5 million new solar panels added in the last three years alone and 30 million panels planned to be installed by 2030 – making Florida a leader in solar energy generation.

FPL is the largest generator of solar energy in Florida with 28 major solar power plants and numerous other solar installations, totaling nearly 2,000 megawatts of solar generation. Four new solar energy centers entered service in 2019 and ten new solar energy centers have entered service so far in 2020.

NextEra Energy Resources is a leading generator of renewable energy from the sun, operating more than 2,600 megawatts of universal-scale solar energy in the U.S.

In 2019 alone, we added 512 MW of solar power to our capacity, and we expect to bring online an additional 1,000 to 2,500 MW of clean, emissions-free solar energy outside of Florida in 2020-2021.

Gulf Power announced its first solar development project, the roughly 75-MW Blue Indigo Solar Energy Center, that was placed in service in early 2020 and is expected to generate significant savings.

Gulf Power plans to increase its use of zero-emissions electricity by nearly 70% by 2029 and to bring a total of 1,560 megawatts of solar in the next decade in the panhandle of Florida.

We continue to tailor solutions for commercial, utility and public power customers who want to produce their own clean, reliable solar energy by helping install projects on rooftops, parking structures and vacant land. We develop, build, finance and operate these systems on or near a customer's site to help them control costs and meet their renewable energy goals.
